(12/07/2017) Thoughts On Divine Personhood

A Depiction of The Fullness of Divinity Streaming As A Single Deity Who Presents Personhood Through 3 Discrete Aspects

Today, thoughts are shared on the Holy Spirit, and differences between divine and human “personhood”.  The “mystery” of the Holy Spirit (we also say, the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, the Spirit of Prophecy, the Spirit of Truth) is his existence as invisible substance (we say, spirit), and his undeniable appearance through deeds and works.  The sacred operations and process of GOD include affirmation, covenant, discovery, edification, forbearance, gradual growth, posing and responding to questions with revelation, giving and requiring respect as well as appearing through ongoing exchange and relationship.  Inseparable aspects of the full array for divine substances include elements that together exist, interact, and can be perceived by created beings and living creatures as higher order entities who are accountable as the causes, origins, and source for meaning and objects having quality and value.  The three divine persons display authority, immortality and incorruption, and are a single active presence.  Thus, aspects of personhood displayed by the Holy Spirit should be discerned as including balance, comfort, compassion, consciousness, gratitude, interdependence, motive, oneness without sameness, purpose, and restraint.  A fighter in the “Yahoo! Answers” forum using the ID “Monica P” (Level 6 with 16,494 points, a member since July 15, 2008) posted the following:

If you believe The Holy Spirit is a person please tell why?

THE GOLDEN ARROW:  Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities:  for we know not what we should pray for as we ought:  but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.  And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.  For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.  Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called:  and whom he called, them he also justified:  and whom he justified, them he also glorified.  What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?  He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?  (Romans 8:  26-32, King James Version, KJV)

THE DOUBLE DAGGER:  That GOD Is Moral? (11/24/2017); Leadings of the Spirit (11/05/2017); Knowing the Invisible GOD (09/17/2017; The Fullness of GOD? (05/21/2017); The Holy Spirit “Begotten”? (02/27/2017); Receiving the Holy Spirit (12/08/2016); The Focus Upon Spirit (09/12/2016)

“Monica P”, here are some thoughts you may find helpful on divine possibilities:

Many mature Christian believers continue to describe the full character, makeup, and substance of divinity as the GODhead (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).  Divine “personhoood” (we also say, person and personness) is acknowledged as an inseparable aspect of divinity in accordance with the appearance of multiple divine operations (e.g., creation, forgiveness, judgment, reconciliation, salvation); the application and provision of “sacred” not “secular” knowledge; the institution of sacred practices (we say, sacraments such as baptism, confession, holy matrimony, repentance); and the embodiment of spirit substance and sovereign will (e.g., divine law, praise, priesthood, the church).

Where we speak of GOD as “the Trinity,” we are using a language and sequencing device for grouping concepts and ideas (we say, “analysis” to acknowledge discrete parts that make up a whole).  Properly understood, the fullness of immortal, incorruptible GOD can not be cut up, dissected and sectioned into smaller units within the frameworks of time and space by using finite human tools (e.g., emotion, intellect, logic, philosophy, carnal reason, science).  Even so, fixed and regular patterns do appear that allow us to consider specific operations of GOD among men that include the following:

(1.)  The Holy Spirit that operated in the Creation acted with direction and purpose that describe personhood, being in accord with others, and responding to a shared standard when putting forth the spheres of life (heaven and earth).

(2.)  The Son of GOD imparted balance, existence, life, divine personhood, presence, and more to establish mankind as a living soul having the “image” of GOD (we also say, life essence, breath, spirit, Word).

(3.)  The active presence who is the Holy Spirit appears within continuous covenant relationships using elements to be visible among men such as blood, fire, water, praise, prayer, proclamation, promise, and prophecy.

(4.)  In water baptism there are death, burial and resurrection of ones inborn spirit with rebirth from divine DNA, so to speak.  Deposits of inseparable spirit substance are imparted to mankind by the Holy Spirit that include faith, holiness, longsuffering, lovingkindness, meekness, righteousness, wisdom, and wrath against sin.

There is far more to be said, correctly examined, and spiritually apprehended.  (For example, (5.)  The Holy Spirit provided gifts of spirit process and substance to the early church at Pentecost to authenticate the divinity of Christ; comfort, build up, and encourage the believers to continue the ministry and work of Christ as well as to begin their preparation for the return of Jesus (we say, Advent, harvest, the Rapture, the Second Coming). )  Even so, I trust this fragment will be useful.  Be it unto you according to your faith.
