(10/31/2013) Why Bother to Read?

Reply is made to a charge that changes to the Bible have made it no longer useful; and there is more on fearing eternity.  A “Yahoo! Answers” writer using the ID “ajk” (Level 1 with 34 points, a member since January 14, 2010) posted the following:

If the bible has been altered so many times, then why do chritians even bother reading it.?

THE BATTLE AXE:  Afraid of Eternal Life? (10/30/2013)—Christians are not being challenged to face some “great unknown” alone, unassisted and without careful preparation.  Through the imparted, indwelling Spirit as well as through proclamations, promises and visions from prophets and apostles that are recorded in the Holy Bible, believers in Jesus Christ are being granted knowledge and a foretaste of their lives in eternal glory.  GOD has revealed that many features of what we now know will not be changed, and will continue to have place (e.g., breathing in and out, praise, speaking instead of mind reading).  While many things will exist as permanent, there will always be freshness, newness, and novelty through diversity and variety, instead of through change.  While there will be no anxiety, covetousness, envy, sorrow, or suspicion of others, there will continue to be experiences of challenge, developing in and through friendships and other interaction, discovery, duty and accountability, achieving ones personal goals, growth, learning, surprise, and shedding tears of joy.  Mankind will be immortal, yet, not all-knowing, invulnerable and “perfect.”  Men will continue to make mistakes that require correction, know “human error,” and operate upon multiple levels of knowledge and maturity.  However, this will be without covering errors or hiding faults by deceit, fraud and lying.  (See Luke 12:  27-32,  1st John 4:  15-19 and Revelation 22:  1-7, KJV.)

THE GOLDEN ARROW:  If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;  If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.  For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:  Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:  And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday:  thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.  And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.  Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.  But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.  (Job 11:  13-20, KJV)

THE DOUBLE DAGGER:  The Bible and Genealogy (09/10/2013); Why GOD Does Not Tell All (09/11/2013); Bible Authors and Truth? (06/19/2013); On Testing GOD (06/20/2013); Missing Information? (06/12/2013); Errors of King Solomon? (06/13/2013); Words Spoken By GOD? (06/05/2013); Teachings on Judgment (06/06/2013)

“ajk”, here are a few points important to most educated persons who examine the holy writings:

(1.)  The supposed changes are not so great that the text has lost focus and meaning, nor is it impossible to reconstruct facsimiles of the original material.  More importantly, most of the alterations and changes seen today can be documented and traced (for example, see the contemporary language Bible, the New International Version (NIV), copyrighted 1973).

(2.)  Readers continue to experience necessary changes in awareness, spirit content, and self-will that demonstrate the action and presence of divinity.  The supposed changes are not so great that believers are unable to recognize the original intent, the spiritual nature of the work, or the outworking of sacred purpose in and through the original writer(s).

There is far more to be said, correctly applied, and spiritually understood.  (For example, (3.)  Christian believers trust that through the holy writings readers receive spirit content from the make-up of Divine Person.  Included are inseparable aspects of GOD displayed through the ministry of Jesus Christ:  faith, forbearance, forgiveness, gratitude, holiness, humility, joy, longsuffering, love, truthfulness, wisdom, and wrath against sin.  Following baptism (wherein one is born again from divine DNA, so to speak), the believer must grow, learn, and come to maturity by relying on divine tools of fellowship, sacrificial giving, practice of sacraments, service, study of the holy writings, and worship.)  I trust this fragment will be useful.  Even so, be it unto you according to your faith.  The time of our Savior’s coming is nearer than before.  Grow in grace.
