(10/25/2015) We Call Him Jealous?

The ancient, yet no less holy, divine name, Jealous, and language to speak of GOD are the focus, today.  Given that jealousy is a carnal attitude and destructive behavior associated with adultery, exaggerated passion, infidelity, and insanity, many are disturbed and embarrassed, rather than admonished and enlightened, when they find that Jealous is a holy name of GOD that also is to be shown full respect and reverence.  GOD proclaims total majesty and sovereignty above all Creation.  However, there are many shared names and roles for the Father and the Son (e.g., Redeemer, Savior) that further affirm their oneness and unity within the fullness of divinity (we say, the GODhead).  Believers are to understand divine love and hate as revealed in righteous judgment; thus, GOD approves constancy, faithfulness and life companionship through marriage, and condemns divorce using strong terms.  Consider again the following from the Bible, and the discussion appearing below:  Isaiah 42:  8-9, King James Version (KJV):  8 I am the LORD:  that is my name:  and my glory will I not give unto another, neither my praise to graven images.  9 Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare.  Isaiah 48:  9-12, KJV:  9 For my name’s sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off.  10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.   11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it:  for how should my name be polluted?  And I will not give my glory unto another.  12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he:  I am the first, I also am the last.  Also, Malachi 2:  14-16, KJV:  14 Yet ye say, Wherefore?  Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth against whom thou hast dealt treacherously:  yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.  15 And did not he make one?  Yet had he the residue of the spirit.  And wherefore one?  That he might seek a godly seed.  Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.  16 For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away:  for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts:  therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.  The fighter at “Yahoo! Why does God hate other gods if they don't exist?

And who is he jealous of in calling himself a jealous God?

THE GOLDEN ARROW:  God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.  The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked:  the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.  He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers:  Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.  The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.  Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.  The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.  But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.  What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end:  affliction shall not rise up the second time.  For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.  (Nahum 1:  2-10, KJV)

THE DOUBLE DAGGER:  Divine Jealousy? (09/11/2015); Meanings That Support Eternal Existence? (06/02/2015); About Knowing the Name of GOD (09/21/2014); About Deluding Yourself? (09/22/2014); Of War and Judgment (10/08/2013); Heart, Brain or Spirit? (10/09/2013)

“El Nerdo Loco”, because GOD is a spirit who is made up only of divine substance and spirit matter, the words we use to describe Deity do not have the same meaning as when we are speaking of others like ourselves.  Thus, words that describe human emotion, feelings, and events among mortal beings (e.g., anger, death, fear, jealousy, love) must be understood as aspects of the divine nature, and sacred operations that effect eternal purposes.  Included are inseparable spirit content and occurrences such as faith, holiness, incarnation, longsuffering, miracles, salvation, wisdom, and wrath against sin.

How divinity is to be known and spoken of (we say, the name of GOD) appears throughout the holy writings in the form of accounts, anecdotes, parables, public records, and eyewitness testimonies.  While some names for GOD acknowledge his exalted sovereignty GOD over all that exists (e.g., him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters) others describe divinity as operating through promise and covenant with mankind (e.g., the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob).  Personal names for divinity (some say, appellations) do appear that are used in direct communication and exchange such as praise, prayer and worship.  El Shaddai (God Almighty), Jealous, and Jehovah are three of the most well known from Scripture.

There is far more to be said, correctly applied, and spiritually apprehended.  For example, GOD is correctly described as “jealous” only where created beings and living creatures exist in intimate relationship with divinity (e.g., apostles, covenant partners, priests, prophets, sons and daughters), and are more than just abstract and material objects.  As person within the full GODhead, the Father, requires commitment, devotion, and worship that are exclusive.  Through the operations of sin—that oppose the continued existence of divine law, the Law Giver, and all divine order maintained through sacred law—consciousness and self-will in finite beings becomes corrupted and defiled.  The result is always defiance, idol worship, rebellion, and spiritual confusion.  I trust this fragment will be useful.  Be it unto you according to your faith.
