(04/13/2013) Why Blood?

Blood as a divine tool is the topic, today; and no BATTLE AXE is presented. A “Yahoo! Answers” writer using the ID “Joshua Kelley” (Level 1 with 95 points, a member since April 8, 2013) posted the following:

How does the shedding of one’s blood act as payment for another’s debt/sin? Why blood?

As someone who is trying to understand Christian theology, I understand that Jesus of Nazareth who supposedly lived a sinless life, allowed his blood to be shed for others who would accept him as payment; in order to be forgiven of their sins.

I understand that Christ’s sacrifice was foreshadowed by animal sacrifices, as can be seen in the Old Testament. I also understand that Christ’s sacrifice was supposed to be the final blood sacrifice to complete the Law of Moses.

What I do not understand is as follows:

1) How can the shedding blood of an innocent be used to pay for another’s debt/sin? If a person kills or rapes or does some other heinous crime, the law, and the victim will be irreversibly damaged. If someone had to pay for the crime, or made to suffer, wouldn’t the victim & the law prefer to have the offender ‘pay’ for the debt/sin, instead of seeing some innocent substitute suffer?

2) Why was innocent blood required? Who was this god of the Old Testament that required blood, in order to forgive sins? Didn’t other pagan gods require blood sacrifice, as well? Why blood? Is it magical or have some special quality to it, that when shed calms god down? How does killing animals, and spilling their blood turn this god’s wrath away from the guilty?

THE GOLDEN ARROW: And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper? And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground. And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand; When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth. And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear. (Genesis 4: 9-13, King James Version)

Joshua, here are some points to consider that you may find very curious because they derive from biblical teachings, life experience, and the faith of a mature Christian believer. They will be easier to understand following prayer that shows respect to GOD:

(1.) Blood is to be understood as a spirit tool of GOD used to convey aspects of existence and divine being. GOD is a spirit, and is only “known” within created beings and living creatures through infusions of Divine Person we call by such names as “the breath of life,” “the Word,” “divine utterance,” “the imparted, indwelling spirit,” “the Comforter,” “the Spirit of Truth,“ and “the Holy Ghost.” Carnal, material and social ideas describing blood must be put aside.

(2.) Animal sacrifices upon the earth pointed to and portrayed sacred processes in the heavens. For example, atonement and cleansing that continue and restore divine Creation are accomplished through blood, the material agent (i.e., flesh, form) that must unify with divine spirit to establish a living soul. In the tabernacle and temple services, blood was sprinkled, and rivers of blood were not applied. This helps us to know, the most important features of service and worship were not the amount of blood that was offered. Paramount are such features of divine being as faith, holiness, humility, obedience, trust, wisdom and wrath against sin.

(3.) Blood defiles and makes unclean, just as blood purges and purifies. Saying this another way: Blood may introduce other spirits that oppose and weaken ones initial endowment from GOD. Thus, when the land is defiled by the shedding of blood, the curse upon the earth is canceled only by the blood of those who have killed, or the blood of their children through the provisions of inheritance whereby the son may cancel the debt of the father.

There is far more to be said, correctly applied, and spiritually apprehended. (For example, (4.) We are attempting to speak of things upon a cosmic scale, where we speak of sin, re-birth, incarnation, and holy blood. It is not impossible to have understanding, however, understanding cannot be rooted in mere logic, reason, and what we flatter ourselves as being intelligence. Do not be confused by such words as “debt” and “payment”; the true focus here is the necessary substance for being, person, and eternal life. Believers must “think inside the box” that is divine law, sacred promises, prophecy, and spirit truth.) Even so, I trust this fragment will be useful. Be it unto you according to the measure of faith you now contain.
