(09/21/2012) Contradictions?

Response is made to a writer’s concern about several specific contradictions found in the Bible, and more is shared on doom, NWO and the believer’s focus upon human events. The “Yahoo! THE BATTLE AXE: Doom (09/20/2012)—While doom, fear of the dark, and fear of “the end of the world” are often spoken of as natural to the human condition, these all are forms of the “fear of death;” and are continuously employed against GOD through attacks made by the Deceiver (called the Adversary, the Devil, the accuser of the brethren, and the Father of Lies), upon other created beings and living creatures. Authority over life and death belong only to GOD, where fear, unbelief, and uncertainty are devices of the Wicked One. Concern for the New World Order (NWO) should be accounted as “beer in your milk.” Focus upon human instead of divine events result in many falling away, or continuing in spiritual confusion. Consider again Matthew 16: 21-25 and Mark 8: 31-35, King James Version.

THE GOLDEN ARROW: Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother: Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh. And last of all the woman died also. Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine. (Matthew 22: 25-33, King James Version)

THE DOUBLE DAGGER: Repelled by the Bible? (08/13/2012); Visions of Heaven (03/22/2012); The “Original” Bible (03/21/2012); Too Many Interpretations? (03/08/2012); Binder 6: The Plan Of This Work (10/03/2011); Prophecy Fails? (03/15/2011); Swearing? (09/30/2010); Bible Boring? (09/29/2010)

Be encouraged. Many will attempt to use the “problem” of Bible contradictions to convince you that the ancient writings cannot be respected and used as a platform for spiritual belief. More than this, they often argue, the contradictions demonstrate that GOD is somehow dishonest in exchange with mankind, imperfect, or even, nonexistent.

Until ones experiences of sacred writings are grounded in the Holy Spirit, the Scriptures will offer many challenges that result from various operations of mind as influenced by the flesh (e.g., fantasy, forgetting, flawed reasoning, rigidity, unbelief) along with self-will as influenced by sin (i.e., the effect and presence directing created beings and living creatures to oppose the existence of all law, Divine Person, and human identity). Many of the details readers select for focus are insignificant as points of spiritual truth, and do not serve in the same way as praise, proclamation, promise, prayer, and prophecy. The Scriptures provide a “god’s-eye-view” of human affairs recording thousands of lives over the course of thousands of years. As well as a chronicle of governments and kings, the Bible documents divine priesthood in the earth, multiple sacred covenants, repeated judgments and divine wrath against sin, as well as forgiveness and continuing grace.

What may appear as contradictions, errors, and inconsistencies are often explained by features in middle-eastern culture, customs and traditions. Other points of difference are resolved by “common sense” and discernment of the intent for the verse or passage. For example, Saul calls David “son”. This is correct in view of David’s place as “son-in-law.” More than this, David is recorded as “taken in” to Saul’s household as a “healer” and his personal musician. In this account, mature believers recognize a “type” depicting adoption through the Holy Spirit whereby we are made sons and daughters of the king. At a time when only two men in the army of Israel owned a sword (the king and his son), Jonathan, the son of Saul, gives his own armor as a gift to David just as Saul had offered his armor to him that he might meet Goliath in battle: there is a bestowing of the son’s inheritance upon whom he will, just as the father may do.

There is far more to be said, correctly applied, and spiritually apprehended. (For example, many readers at first are confused to hear the Apostle Peter called “Simon” by Jesus, and later referred to as Cephas by John and Paul.) Even so, I trust this fragment will be useful. Be it unto you according to your faith.
