A holy name and title given Jesus is in view, today, “the Alpha and Omega.” Also, there is more on Jesus as “the Word.” A “Yahoo! Answers” writer using the ID “Birdy” (Level with 137,344 points, a member since February 13, 2007) posted the following originally asked on Yahoo Answers Canada:
Is Jesus speaking in Revelation Chapter 1:8?
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
red letter bibles indicate that it is Him. Is this correct? please explain
THE BATTLE AXE: Jesus Is GOD’s Word (12/28/2013)—(5.) Within the full aspect of all divinity (we say, GODhead) the Word also is described as displaying such features as awareness, being, person, power, presence, purpose, and will. Jesus, as the Word incarnate (i.e., in human flesh), is an embodiment of all sacred truth, of sovereign majesty, of eternal being, and of divine authority. See Colossians 2: 8-10, John 14: 6-10 and 1st John 1: 1-3, KJV.
THE GOLDEN ARROW: And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God. And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand. He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. (Revelation 22: 8-17, KJV)

“Birdy”, here are a few points helpful to most Christian believers as they continue study of “the Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him. to shew unto his servants”:
(1.) Like Christ, Faithful and True, the Holy One, The Just, and Messiah, “the Alpha and Omega” is one of many holy names, and sacred titles bestowed upon Jesus. While GOD is to be known and understood as a spirit having no material form or substance, he makes himself visible, and reveals himself to created beings and living creatures by divine actions and sacred events. Included are atonement, birth, creation, death, incarnation (i.e., appearing in flesh), judgment, redemption, resurrection, salvation, and sanctification. Through this particular name, the fullness of divinity (we say, Godhead) is described as complete (some say, sound or whole), directed (i.e., answering to, and with purpose), eternal and “finished” (we might say, immutable, unchanging). The reputation of GOD by Jesus is one of affirmation for divine law, execution of proclamation, fulfillment for every promise, and righteousness in all judgment.
(2.) “The testimony of Jesus” is the experience of divine presence, instruction, and encouragement to act that is to be proclaimed and shared by all his disciples and followers. Saying this another way, the true church of Jesus is identified through the Spirit of Prophecy (we also say, the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth). To prophesy is to comfort, edify (we say, build up the church) and to exhort (urge to take immediate action). See 1st Corinthians 14: 3 and Revelation 19: 10, KJV.
There is far more to be said, properly shared, and spiritually understood. (For example, (3.) After faith—a spirit substance that is an inseparable aspect of divine person along with such other content as forgiveness, gratitude, holiness, joy, longsuffering, love, truth, wisdom, and wrath against sin—the most necessary weapons for Christian warfare are the blood of the lamb, and our words of testimony. See Revelation 12: 11, KJV.) Even so, I trust this fragment will be useful. Grow in grace.
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; (2nd Corinthians 10: 3-5, KJV)
