L. Connor Think On These Things... (image reference below).
Today, reply is on the action and work of the Holy Spirit whom Jesus Christ sends to his church on the earth to continue the ministry of redemption and salvation. Jesus spoke of the divine agent he would send to the church from the Godhead as “the Comforter,” suggesting the primary role of the Spirit would be to help the flock endure the loss of the Good Shepherd. Other names given the Spirit (e.g., the Holy Ghost, the Spirit of Grace, the Spirit of Prophecy, the Spirit of Truth), make it clear that just as there are many gifts bestowed by the Spirit, there are many tasks and sacred works carried out by the Holy Spirit beyond addressing bereavement, uncertainty, and the absence of the Lord. The active presence himself from the Father and Son was the power the church needed to complete the work of displaying the image of Christ, global evangelism, and spreading the Gospel to all the world, fulfilling the Great Commission. It is written: Matthew 10: 16-22, King James Version (KJV): 16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. 17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; 18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. 19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. 20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. 21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. 22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. What
does it mean that the Holy Spirit comforts you?
John
14:16-17
THE
GOLDEN ARROW: And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant
unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,
By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders
may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. And when they had
prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and
they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of
God with boldness. And the multitude of them that believed were of
one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that
ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all
things common. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the
resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

to obtain mercy sinners must enter into judgment; to obtain comfort,
believers must enter into unselfish service and suffering. In the
same way the Father and the Holy Spirit encouraged, reinforced and
supported the ministry of divinity appearing on the earth using form
and flesh (we say, the Incarnation as Jesus Christ), the Holy Spirit
is the primary agent and representative of Jesus Christ as the High
Priest in heaven who continues to build up, edify, and nourish the
living body of divinity on the earth that is the church. Multiple
sacred works are being performed to complete the transformation
whereby created beings and living creatures will exist as immortal,
incorruptible companions of the divine fullness (i.e., the Godhead;
the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit). Sinners who turn to GOD
through Jesus Christ are to receive a fresh endowment of life
essence (breath; spirit; word). Inseparable spirit substance
from the makeup of GOD is provided that establishes such elements as
balance, faith, holiness, joy, longsuffering, lovingkindness, oneness
without sameness, wisdom, wrath against sin, and zeal.
Atonement,
forgiveness, judgment, eternal life and many of the works of GOD to
recover and preserve Creation require that mankind receive deposits
of spirit substance and perform works of tarrying, waiting, and
witnessing sacred events that are to be completed by GOD. The comfort
mankind must receive from divinity goes beyond the human condition as
carnal, material, political, and social. More than hugs, kisses,
drying our tears, and personal responses of affection are needed.
Thus, divinity uses the frameworks of time and space when
communicating, exchanging, and interacting with mankind; however,
human life must be acknowledged as brief, episodic, lacking
continuity, and unstable. Divine mechanisms are being shared that
permit mortal beings to operate in relationship with GOD as though
the frequent interruptions of appetite, emotion, sickness, and death
do not occur. Included are assurance, atonement, covenant, dynasty,
family, forgiveness, inheritance, longevity, pledge, prophecy,
rebirth, resurrection from the dead, vision, and revelation.
Consider
again the following that uses language from the Bible:
1.
2nd Corinthians 1: 2-7, King James Version (KJV): 2
Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from
the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed be God, even the Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all
comfort; 4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be
able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort
wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. 5
For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also
aboundeth by Christ. 6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for
your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of
the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be
comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. 7
And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are
partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also
of the consolation.
2.
2nd Corinthians 7: 1-4, KJV: 1 Having therefore these
promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all
filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear
of God. 2 Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no
man, we have defrauded no man. 3 I speak not this to condemn
you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die
and live with you. 4 Great is my boldness of speech
toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with
comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.
There
is far more that should be said, correctly examined, and spiritually
apprehended. (For example, 3. 1st Thessalonians 4:
13-18, KJV: 13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren,
concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others
which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose
again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with
him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we
which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall
not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall
descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel,
and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up
together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and
so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another
with these words.) Even so, I trust this fragment will be useful.
Be it unto you according to your faith.
