(08/07/2015) The Apocryphal Books?

Points are shared, today, to clarify why some presentations of the Bible include ancient writings that are called apocryphal (hidden away) books.  Most Protestant believers rely upon a Bible having only 66 books, while many Catholic believers may use a Bible having as many as 77 books.  The many fragments and manuscripts  available to modern readers include controversial materials that were never given status as Scripture among the Jews, by Jesus, by the New Testament, by the early church, or by those spoken of as the church fathers.  Antilegomena (disputed; spoken against) and extra-canonical books also include numerous pseudepigrapha (false writings) that appeared as  apocalyptic and didactic religious compositions; many finally were held to be copy-cat, counterfeit, frauds, legendary, and unauthentic.  The fighter at “Yahoo! Answers” using the ID “Ronald” (Level 1 with 100 points, a member since August 04, 2015) posted the following:

Protestants; On what grounds do you have to omit 7 books from the Bible?

Roman Catholic bibles have 7 additional books whilst Protestant bibles don't, I was wondering why that was?

THE GOLDEN ARROW:  Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth.  But I receive not testimony from man:  but these things I say, that ye might be saved.  He was a burning and a shining light:  and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.  But I have greater witness than that of John:  for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.  And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.  And ye have not his word abiding in you:  for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.  Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life:  and they are they which testify of me.  And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.  (John 5:  33-40, KJV)

THE DOUBLE DAGGER:  Can The Bible Be Increased? (05/31/2015); The Scriptures and Perfection? (10/27/2014); Catholics, Protestants and the Trinity? (10/12/2014); The Gift of Life Despised? (10/13/2014); The Issue Is Not Accuracy (05/16/2014); Denying Oneself (05/17/2014); Why Not One Bible? (11/02/2013); Why Jesus Used Parables (11/03/2013)

“Ronald”, here are a few points that may be helpful for you to consider:

(1.)  There are 14 books of scripture-like writings called “the Apocrypha” that were written in the more than 400-year period following the appearance of Malachi as the last of the Old Testament Prophets and the appearance of John the Baptist as the herald of Christ, and the first Prophet of the New Testament.  The various books written after the close of the Hebrew scriptures and before proclamation of the Gospel do not clearly continue the same doctrine, function, purpose, and eternal Spirit.  For many, their inclusion among the Holy Scriptures are strictly for historical and secular purposes.

(2.)  The existing books of the Bible, as a collection of sacred writings, have all individually undergone examination to determine that their pronouncements and prophesies are authentic, and genuinely from GOD.  In addition to scholarly study, sacred operations have been acknowledged that include endorsement of divine origin through fulfillment, miracles, sacred signs, supernatural events, wonders, and prayer.

(3.)  For Christian believers the process of identifying events, messages, and those sent as representatives from GOD is accomplished by application of sacred knowledge and standards that have been provided by divinity through the imparted spirit.  In the same way sin may be understood as influencing the operations of consciousness and self-will within created beings and living creatures, the Holy Spirit (also called the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, the Spirit of Prophecy, the Spirit of Truth) is sent by Christ and the Father to establish permanent changes within the character and nature of believers through baptism (death of ones inborn spirit) and rebirth from divine seed.  Born-again believers must gradually grow again meeting life challenges upon the earth.  As they do so, they develop and practice spiritual discernment (a continuous sacred process wherein a person’s indwelling spirit from GOD serves as a standard to recognize divine spirit content in other persons and things).  Thus, even looking at the replies given you, here, a believer may see right away whether the “spirit” operating in the persons who have responded is in agreement with that of the holy writings, with the spirit of leaders within the church body, and with ones own communion and prayer life with Deity.

There is far more that could be said, and that must be correctly understood and spiritually taken into account.  (For example (4.)  All genuine sacred writings are an aspect of the full revelation whereby GOD makes divinity known to the living using utterance (we say, breath, spirit, word) that includes commandment, praise, prayer, proclamation, promise, prophecy, testimony and verdicts in judgment.)  Even so, I trust this fragment will be useful.  Be it unto you according to your faith.

(04/14/2015) Those Having the True Secrets?

Today, some points are shared on divine order within the household of faith, and why sacred knowledge would be withheld from non-clergy.  Even now, in many parts of the world, the church endures life and death persecution.  Secrecy may be necessary for survival, and is not for accomplishing criminal behavior and malicious works.  Members must be careful how they affiliate themselves to those outside the fellowship; and must be alert and prayerful as they exchange and interact with others.  The writer at “Yahoo! Answers” using the ID “Catherine Tanya Geer” (Level 2 with 299 points, a member since November 14, 2014) posted the following:

Do you think Ministers and Rabbi's have the true religious secrets and CHOOSE not to reveal them?

Would it be due to fear or selfishness?

THE GOLDEN ARROW:  Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone:  if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.  But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.  And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church:  but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.  Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven:  and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.  Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.  For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.  (Matthew 18:  15-20, KJV)

THE DOUBLE DAGGER:  To Drink Holy Blood? (02/16/2015); On Saying the Truth? (12/18/2014); What is Truth? (12/19/2014); Harden Not Your Hearts? (04/10/2013); Faith, Language and “Mystery” (04/11/2013); Why "Mysterious" (11/11/2012); Attending Church? (11/12/2012)

“Catherine Tanya Geer”, here are a few points shared among Christian believers to maintain correct order within the church.  Many are called, few are chosen.  The cautions made against false prophets also applies to counterfeit believers.  The sacred community prospers by holding to peculiar disciplines, practices and principles that have been tried and tested over centuries:

(1.)  Matthew 7:  6, KJV:  6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

(2.)  1st John 4:  1-3, KJV:  Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God:  because many false prophets are gone out into the world.  2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God:  Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:  3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God:  and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

(3.)  James 1:  16-17, KJV:  16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.  17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

(4.)  Matthew 7:  13-17, KJV:  13 Enter ye in at the strait gate:  for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:  14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.  15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.  16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?  17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

(5.)  1st Timothy 5:  18-20, KJV:  18 For the scripture saith, thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.  19 Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.  20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

(6.)  1st Peter 4:  9-11, KJV:  9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.  10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.  11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth:  that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

As usual, there is far more to be said, correctly understood, and spiritually apprehended.  (For example, (7.)  Because they serve as spokespersons for divinity, clergy all are held to strict accountability.  Consider again:  Matthew 12:  36-37, KJV:  36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.  37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.)  Even so, I trust this fragment will be useful.  Be it unto you according to your faith and spiritual maturity.

(02/03/2014) Obliged to Disregard?

Today, U.S. currency and features of the twenty-dollar bill are used to correct the mistaken notion that Christians are to disregard the Old Testament.  Also, there is more on atonement and forgiveness.  A writer at “Yahoo! Answers” using the ID “Peter” (a member since April 01, 2013) posted the following originally asked at Yahoo Answers Canada:

Christians: Under the New Covenant you are obliged to disregard the OT. So why follow the 10 Commandments?

........ when they are from the rejected OT.

THE BATTLE AXE:  Forgiveness Through GOD? (02/02/2014)—For many who have come to GOD through Jesus Christ, believing began with common sense ideas about what a genuine god would be capable of with a willingness to ask questions and learn more.  More than this, we all began with peculiar understandings of what a true god would do to (1) establish and maintain the many expressions of divinity that are displayed through all that exists, (2) make divine person known and respected, and (3) remove every thing that opposes the continued existence of divinity.  Through ministries upon the earth as well as from the place of divine presence (we say, heaven), Jesus Christ appears in distinct and godly being (we say, incarnation) that agrees with ones inner sense of order, reality, and truth while further clarifying divine operations, sanctified process, all previous sacred revelations, intimate relationship with GOD, and eternal purpose.  Believers all grow in knowledge and understanding by continuing in fellowship with one another, study of the holy writings, and practice of a lifestyle that amplifies and applies sacred truth.  See Romans 6:  16-23, Ephesians 2:  1-10 and 1st Peter 4:  9-11, King James Version.

THE GOLDEN ARROW:  If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?  For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.  For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.  For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.  And it is yet far more evident:  for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,  Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.  (Hebrews 7:  11-16, KJV)

THE DOUBLE DAGGER:  Covenants and Relationships (01/29/2014); Salvation is Conditional? (01/30/2014); Bible Justice? (01/26/2014); GOD Inhabits Praise (01/27/2014); About Sabbath (10/16/2013); We Shall Behold Him (10/17/2013); Gentiles and the Law? (09/19/2013); According to This Word (09/20/2013); Jesus and the Pharisees (07/14/2013); How Could Angels Fall? (07/15/2013); What He Died For (09/14/2012); Chances for Change (09/15/2012)

“Peter”, for many, the cross is foolishness, they do not understand why it was necessary or what it accomplished; yet for those who believe, it is the power of GOD unto salvation.  Here are a few points to consider regarding the impact of the cross for the Old and New Testaments:

(1.)  The face of a twenty dollar bill in U. S. currency shows the portrait of a former President (Andrew Jackson), while the obverse shows an image of the White House in Washington, DC.   Two different seals, two signatures, and serial numbers appear on only one side of the Federal Reserve Note.  While most users are able to recognize the value for the bill by looking at the numbers placed at the four corners, for users to receive full value for the bill they must surrender the whole note.  Similarly, to detect counterfeits of a true bill, users must examine and study the whole thing.

(2.)  Despite their differences the old and new covenants are aspects of a single truth, and to fulfill the plan of GOD, both must be embraced together.  Detection of various errors only become possible by correct knowledge of the “true note,” so to speak.  Believers must be prepared to encounter arrogance, false prophesies, hate, heresy, ignorance, lies, malice, pride, and unbelief.  Often, the attacks upon truth are disguised as friendship, fun (we say, humor or jokes), intellect, logic, reason, and false science.

(3.)  For created beings and living creatures to comprehend the cosmic impact of sin their awareness, and the process of their self-will must be transformed in phases and stages that maintain and reinforce the divine order.  Sin opposes the continued existence of GOD, of The Ten Commandments and all divinely given law as well as of all Creation.  Just as paper currency represents the authority and lawful order established by a nation for commerce, exchange and social interaction, so the revealed laws of GOD make divinity known and visible while fostering communication and exchange among those who are part of the Kingdom of GOD.

There is far more to be said, properly shared, and spiritually understood.  (For example, (4.)  The official value of currency is not altered by the private application and use of it; yet, we speak of “filthy lucre.”  We acknowledge that, while charitable giving may occur, misuse encouraging prostitution and purchase of illegal drugs also may appear.  Similarly, abusers of divine law, of the word of GOD and the many provisions for the faithful will arise.  Knowing this, believers put on the whole armor of GOD to disregard, reject, repel, and resist the things that derive from the enemy.  The things from GOD continue to be of value as holy, pure, righteous, and wise.)  Even so, I trust this fragment will be useful.  Be it unto you according to your faith.

(11/20/2013) Understanding Peace?

Divine peace is the topic, today; and there is more on questionable displays of the Holy Spirit.  A writer at “Yahoo! 7 Answers” (Australia) using the ID “strueimage” (Level 1 with 38 points, a member since 24 January 2012) posted the following first asked at Yahoo Answers United States:

In what way does “the peace of the Christ” control in a Christian’s heart?

THE BATTLE AXE:  Too Much Holy Spirit? (11/19/2013)—Correctly understood, no believer (either clergy or layperson) has authority to control, exploit, or manipulate the deposits and gifts from the Holy Spirit that exist in, and work from within a fellow believer.  Someone who is host to the Holy Spirit continues having ability to operate with awareness, discernment, intellect and self-will; therefore, that host remains accountable for their own behavior, choices and conduct at all times.  While the believer may not control the imparted Spirit from GOD; neither may the Holy Spirit control a believer as though he or she is an unfeeling, unthinking machine.  The host repeatedly must make the choice to acknowledge and yield to promptings by the Holy Spirit.  Just as the Holy Spirit may not be named as the cause of sins a host might commit, neither should the Spirit be accused, or condemned as the cause of carnal and worldly behavior performed by the host.  Under the power of the Spirit, believers may experience trances, or visions, and may perform involuntary acts (as when one collapses as though “slain” in the Spirit; see Daniel 10:  8-11, KJV).  Even so, believers are to prepare themselves and others for such sacred events, and when possible, establish beforehand the duration, location, and times when such events will be manifest to chosen witnesses.  Satan is often mistakenly accused of sending hypocrites, false prophets, and those in confusion who display counterfeits of the Holy Spirit, because fear and misunderstanding are increased by out of control behavior.  The spirit of any true prophet is “subject to the prophets.”  This does not mean one who prophesies is subordinate to another church member through hierarchy.  Rather, it states that every prophetic demonstration must meet a criteria of agreement, consistency, harmony and relevance to earlier divine proclamations and prophecies—those fulfilled as well as those continuing in process, and those the church must await.  The Spirit and the Word always agree.  (See 1st Corinthians 14:  1-40, KJV.)

THE GOLDEN ARROW:  He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me:  and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.  Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?  Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words:  and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.  He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings:  and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.  These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.  But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.  Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you:  not as the world giveth, give I unto you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.  (John 14:  21-27, KJV)

THE DOUBLE DAGGER:  Heart, Brain or Spirit? (10/09/2013); The Image of GOD? (10/10/2013); A GOD of War? (03/12/2013); “Authorized Personnel Only” (03/13/2013); The Dove (12/28/2012); Purchased With Blood? (12/29/2012); To See With New Eyes (11/06/2012); A Life Companion (11/07/2012); The “Lake of Mercy” (11/03/2012); Seeking and Being Sought (11/04/2012)

“strueimage”, here are a few points that strengthen Christian believers:

(1.)  Where the “peace of Christ” means the same certainty, confidence and security that was experienced by the Savior during his ministry upon the earth, there must be rebirth of the believer through operations of GOD described as baptism, cleansing, and death.  As new creatures (still in flesh and mortal, yet, containing added and fresh endowments of divine substance), believers are free from the human predicament that results by the operation of sin.  Included are release from conflict between and among such features as doubts, fantasy, knowledge, imagination, instinct and intuition as well as lack of clarity and inconsistency for desire, goals, hopes, and needs.

(2.)  In the world, today, many are emotionally and psychologically destroyed by continually seeing the differences between what things are, what things were, and what things can and should be.  By the peace of Christ, believers are made free of the frustration that comes from lacking all the necessary skill to put into practice and implement every aspect of good.  It remains that sin cannot be eliminated by the operations of human intellect, logic, reason, and science.  Through inseparable spirit content from Christ (such as faith, forbearance, forgiveness, gratitude, holiness, joy, love, wisdom, wrath against sin) ones awareness and nature are being perfected and transformed.  Bitterness, distrust and resentment are removed; and there is reconciliation to GOD, and to divine law.  Because they correctly comprehend multiple divine operations and sacred purposes that demonstrate the justice and righteousness of GOD, believers embrace acceptance of their dependence, and have no quarrel against restriction to finite limits.

There is far more to be said, correctly applied, and spiritually understood.  (For example, (3.)  Peace that is an aspect of being and existence is more than simply inactivity, feeling, quiet, and stillness.  Divine peace does not “control” or manipulate behavior and conduct; cannot be mandated or negotiated by councils of men; and does not fade, or go and return as an element in the framework of time and space.  Like the knee or the elbow are parts of ones body always present as a feature of their movement and full person, peace from GOD through Christ is ever-present as believers interact with the Divine Person and with others, their peers in the earth.)  Even so, I trust this fragment will be useful.  Be it unto you according to your faith.  Jesus is coming soon.  Grow in grace.
