Today,
Scripture verses and passages are shared that can be used to provide
developing Christian believers with an understanding of “repentance”.

What
is repentance?
THE
GOLDEN ARROW: Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine
iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right
spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not
thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation;
and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach
transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation:
and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. O Lord,
open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. For
thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou
delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a
broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not
despise. (Psalms 51: 9-17, King James Version, KJV)

“The
new Christian”, here are some Scriptures from the Bible that often
are shared among Christians to help “sinners” grasp the meaning
of “repentance” when they seek to become “developing
believers.” Because GOD is to be acknowledged as the origin of our
existence and life essence (we say, breath; spirit;
word) repentance is to bring about more than simply admissions of
guilt and wrongdoing (confession), or changes in ones conduct
(behavior modification). With the realization that we have broken
the law of GOD we also are to realize we have broken his heart as
well as our own. Thus, it is written:
(1.)
Ezekiel 18: 20-24, King James Version (KJV): 20 The soul that
sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the
father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the
righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness
of the wicked shall be upon him. 21 But if the wicked will turn from
all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do
that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not
die. 22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall
not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he
shall live. 23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should
die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he
should return from his ways, and live? 24 But when the righteous
turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and
doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man
doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall
not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in
his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
(2.)
Joel 2: 12-13, KJV: 12 Therefore also now, saith the LORD,
turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and
with weeping, and with mourning: 13 And rend your heart, and not
your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God:
for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great
kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.
(3.)
Isaiah 55: 6-12, KJV: 6 Seek ye the LORD while
he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 7 Let the wicked
forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him
return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon
him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8 For my
thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways
my ways, saith the LORD. 9 For as the
heavens are higher than the
earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than
your thoughts. 10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from
heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh
it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread
to the eater: 11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my
mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish
that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto
I sent it. 12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with
peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into
singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their
hands.
(4.)
2nd Corinthians 7: 10-11, KJV: 10 For godly sorrow
worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the
sorrow of the world worketh death. 11 For behold this selfsame
thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it
wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what
indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire,
yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things
ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
There
is far more that should be said, correctly examined, and spiritually
apprehended. (For example, (5.) 1st
Corinthians 6: 19-20, KJV: 19 What? know ye not that your body is
the temple of the Holy Ghost which
is in you, which ye have of
God, and ye are not your own? 20
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body,
and in your spirit, which are God’s.)
Even so, I trust this fragment will be
useful. Be it unto you according to your faith.
