(03/19/2014) Needing Guns To Serve?

Focus today is upon the use of firearms and guns by military chaplains, doctors, and priests.  Also, there is more on reading Scriptures that may be unclear.  The fighter at “Yahoo! Answers” using the ID “Sam” (Level 1 with 1 point, a member since February 04, 2014) posted the following:

Do you think doctors and priests/chaplains should carry guns if their job is to serve humanity and save people?

I am a 23 year old guy going into the army MD program. I carry a glock 19 for self defense and I practice frequently on weekends. I also own a 12 gauge pump, a judge revolver, an AK47, SKS, 357 magnum, 308. deer hunting rifle, 22 target pistol and a 1911. I was showing my friend my collection before we went out to shoot and his girlfriend made a comment about how I was not being very "doctor like". She told me that she thought it was weird that someone who wanted to save lives would be so into guns. I told her that I was going to be a military doctor and that she should just chill out, but then she brought up the geneva convention. According to the Geneva convention military docs and priests are non-combatants and it is illegal to target them in combat. Supposedly their prime directive is to do no harm. She was just ******* with me and we had a good laugh but it really got me thinking.

If I go to medical school do you think they would be annoyed that a doctor is also prepared to kill people? I am not a nut and I would not carry my glock where I am not allowed to, but at the same time I feel like there might be a lot of liberal people there.

On the same point, I hardly ever see a priest or preacher with a gun, only the crazy ones on TV. I am not particularly religious and I don't go to church so I guess I wouldn't know.

Do you think that a person who has aa job to save lives and serve humanity, like a doctor or a priest or whatever, should carry a firearm?

THE BATTLE AXE:  Unclear Scriptures? (03/18/2014)—Correct spiritual knowledge, full understanding, and genuine wisdom come gradually to a believer; and there are many things a believer must encounter and respond to all at the same time.  Yet, GOD is not the author of confusion; and it is not God’s intent to belittle, misdirect, or mock those he receives through Christ.  All believers should continue to experience some awkwardness, discomfort, and embarrassment as they are brought into humility by the presence of GOD in their awareness.  The knowledge we are given by GOD is for the fulfillment of divine purposes, not ones own self-promotion.  All believers must experience a process of spiritual growth wherein contradictions, errors, and bad habits may be identified, and removed.  More than this attitudes, behavior, and conduct that respond to sin must be detected, properly labeled, repented of, resisted, and suppressed.  Believers are to experience the holy writings as a spark or stimulus that activates spiritual discernment, discovery, and insight.  Multiple exposures to a range of scriptural statements allow recognition of otherwise invisible differences as well as their agreement, contrast, fit, and sameness.  See Proverbs 9:  6-10, 1st Corinthians 14:  10-33, James 1:  5-8, KJV.

THE GOLDEN ARROW:  For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;  (2nd Corinthians 10:  3-5, KJV)

THE DOUBLE DAGGER:  Are We the Spoils of War? (01/08/2014); The Fullness of GODhead? (01/09/2014); Of War and Judgment (10/08/2013); Heart, Brain or Spirit? (10/09/2013); Jericho Justified? (07/02/2013); Theoretical Forgiveness? (07/03/2013); The Return in Glory? (07/04/2013); A GOD of War? (03/12/2013); “Authorized Personnel Only” (03/13/2013); A Godly Take on Guns (01/18/2013); It Is Finished (01/19/2013); Why Did the Judges Fight? (10/19/2012); The Spirit is Willing (10/20/2012)

“Sam”, here are a few points that might clarify Christian belief and responsibility:

1.  Accountability.  Committing acts of violence may be in keeping with ones lawful duty such as bailiffs, executioners, sheriffs and other law enforcement officers.  Because extreme incidents and life-or-death combat situations occur in-the-line-of-duty, defense and use of force must be carried out in a manner that is professional (we say, controlled, impersonal (not based upon continuing patterns of emotion or private relationship), limited to specific pre-described situations, and supervised).  When ones actions are acceptable by official standards, and consistent with legitimate policy, they are not to be regarded as criminal.  Even so, believers acknowledge accountability to GOD.  Atonement and re-dedication may be required along with communion to re-affirm divine forgiveness.

2.  Commitment.  All disciples and workers for Christ agree to be permanently changed, and to unselfishly operate as agents for the spiritual salvation of others.  Believers are to display and make visible the same spirit content that was in Jesus.  It is in this sense that “their lives are not their own.”  To obey is to put aside ones own desire and will to carry out that of another; just as to love is to seek the benefit of another, and to add value to their life experience.  Believers are commanded to “lay down their life,” “take up the cross,” and to “turn the other cheek” in order to establish the action and presence of GOD.

It should go without saying that there is a lot more to be said, correctly applied, thoroughly examined, and spiritually apprehended.  (For example, 3.  Representation.  Those who claim to represent GOD by warfare are not the same as those who represent GOD by judgment.  Peace is never an outcome of war.  Peace is by judgment, the resolution of conflict through law, and the settlement of dispute through truth.  Even where one is in obedience to a chain-of-command or the civil law of their community and nation, and are not carrying out their own personal goals and intent, they are no less obligated to operate with conscience, humanity, and integrity.  Should they begin to behave as complacent, thoughtless, unfeeling machines they are no longer fit as agents and expressions of their own families, and private lives.)  Even so, I trust this fragment will be useful.  Be it unto you according to your faith.

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.   (Romans 15:  13, KJV)
