(12/27/2012) Hellfire and Brimstone Preaching?

The importance of divine wrath and sacred knowledge to spirit-filled preaching is considered, today. Also, there is more on the spirit of man as the candle of GOD. The Yahoo Answers” writer using the ID “Jack Covie” (Level 1 with 20 points, a member since December 20, 2012) posted the following:

Why are so many spineless Christians today preaching about love and peace and not about God's wrath?

What happened to hellfire and brimstone preaching?

I grew up in Tennessee in the 1950s. Back then the preachers were fiery men of passion. They didn't try to be politically correct. They weren't afraid to offend people. They said without hesitation that if you die without God you will be sent to hell to burn forever. No ifs ands or buts. But today you have fools preaching about love, and God does love everyone, but he also has vengeful side that will strike you fools down.

THE BATTLE AXE: Candles of GOD? (12/26/2012)—Almighty GOD uses the spirit of man both to see (i.e., identify the nuances within human makeup), and to be seen (i.e., reveal himself). In such examination and judgment, behavior and conduct are not the focus of GOD so much as the presence of specific aspects of divine substance that make a person fit to be in communion and have fellowship with GOD as well as to fulfill prophecy, to receive spiritual increase, and to perform sacred service. The purpose of judgment, then, is not destruction and punishment so much as appreciation (assigning right value), correction, making the most effective use of spiritual resources, and providing maximum sacred benefits. While sin has appeared as an influence upon the will of created beings and living creatures, sin does not directly control and manipulate ones spirit content. The focus and power of spirit continually changes, however, the makeup of human spirit is constant, and presents as both animal and divine expression. The divine nature may be permanently amplified, concentrated or reconfigured through death, prophecy, rebirth, and sanctification.

THE GOLDEN ARROW: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (2nd Peter 1: 2-8, KJV)

THE DOUBLE DAGGER: Love in Christ (10/23/2012); Unconditional Love (03/28/2012); On Properly Setting Our Sights (03/29/2012); Justice Comes by Love? (10/01/2012); A Daily Revelation (10/02/2012); Girdle 28: Grounded In Love (12/13/2011); Girdle 7: Gateways (11/22/2011); Binder 38: Everlasting Kindness (11/04/2011)

Many mature Christian believers agree that “hell fire and brimstone” preaching centers in emotion, feeling, the flesh, and the law, rather than in the person of Jesus, the many sacred purposes of GOD, the work of spreading the Gospel, or the changes and choices one must make in order to receive the Holy Ghost. The imparted, indwelling spirit from GOD (also called the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, the Spirit of Prophecy), establishes divinity within the believer that otherwise exists only in Divine Person. Included are balance, holy boldness, hope, faith, joy, longsuffering, love, piety, righteousness, truth, wisdom, and wrath against sin. (These aspects of divine content are inseparable, such that, where one appears, all are present.)

Wrath against sin is not a temporary feature describing divine displeasure. Manifest as the law and truth, wrath makes sin known to created beings and living creatures. Sin is no carnal, material, physical or social “thing.” Sin, that first appeared among the angels, and was made visible through behavior, has not been created by GOD, and may not be eliminated simply by changing ones conduct. Sin opposes the existence of divine being, divine law, and the entire Creation of GOD. Wrath is a permanent aspect of divine being, and should not be confused with human anger, temper, and rage that comes and goes as a disposition or mood. Wrath pertains to sacred processes such as death, judgment, resurrection, and sanctification.

There is far more to be said, correctly applied, and spiritually apprehended. (For example, fear of the Lord (awe) and wrath against sin are not the same, yet the two are one (i.e., complements). Believers are called to acquire sacred knowledge, and to operate with full awareness of divine grace. Faith and feeling are to be in balance with reason; for thereby, the whole person of Christ is displayed: both he who overturned the tables of the money changers in the Temple having a scourge in his hands, and he who wept over Jerusalem.) Even so, I trust this fragment will be useful. Be it unto you according to your faith.
